SALT LAKE CITY, Utah -- Simply Mac delivered $15,000 worth of food to the Utah Food Bank on Friday, Dec. 21, 2012. The donation was a result of the third annual Simply Mac Meals for Macs food drive.

Simply Mac collected canned food donations at its five Wasatch Front retail locations in Layton, downtown Salt Lake City, Foothill, Fort Union and Orem from Nov. 16 through Dec. 16. The Apple Specialist pledged to donate five pounds of food for every computer purchased at its retail locations during the food drive time frame.

Additionally, Simply Mac partnered with Kurt Bestor and his 25 Anniversary of “A Kurt Bestor Christmas” concert programs to increase awareness of hunger in Utah and to provide another opportunity for Utahns to donate canned food for the Utah Food Bank.

Food for the donation was purchased from Macey’s grocery stores, which parterned with Simply Mac to purchase food in bulk, at a wholesale rate.

Simply Mac held its Meals for Macs food drive in its St. George, Utah, Idaho Falls, Idaho, Jackson, Wyo. and Grand Junction, Colo. stores to support food banks in those local communities.

Simply Mac Receives Recycler of the Year Award

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - Simply Mac, a local Apple Specialist, received the Recycler of the Year Award from the Recycling Coalition of Utah (RCU), at the RCU Annual Conference in June.

Simply Mac held a two-day electronic waste, or e-Waste, recycle event the last two years in Utah. The first event, in April 2011, spanned both Utah and Salt Lake counties, where over 2,600 businesses, organizations and individuals were able to recycle a total of 500,000 pounds of e-Waste.

The second event, which was April 13 and 14 of this year, was in Salt Lake City, where 250,000 pounds of e-Waste were recycled.

“The Recycler of the Year award is given to organizations and individuals who are leading the way in recycling efforts in the state of Utah,” said Brad Mertz, Executive Director of the RCU, “Simply Mac has gone above and beyond any expectation we’ve had in terms of helping Utahns recycle. This award isn’t something we take lightly. Some years we don’t give it to anyone. When we do award a business or individual, it really means something.”

Steve Bain, Simply Mac’s president and personal recipient of the award, was happy to be recognized for the work Simply Mac did to improve the local environment. “We are honored to be recognized by the Recycling Coalition of Utah and Brad Mertz for our efforts with the e-Waste events we’ve operated the last two years in Utah. It has been a pleasure to provide a safe and environmentally friendly way to dispose of electronic waste at no cost to the community.”

Simply Mac’s e-Waste events are generally held in the month of April, to coincide with Earth Day, and cover two days. One day is set aside for businesses, schools and other organizations to bring larger amounts of e-Waste to recycle. The second day is for the general public to recycle. Electronic waste is any form of outdated technology equipment, whether it’s a cathode ray computer monitor, television, printer, fax machine or even a computer mouse.

Simply Mac partnered with Apple to host the e-waste recycling event, the largest ever held in Utah. The event allowed businesses and consumers to recycle their electronic waste at no cost to them. “There is typically a charge when recycling electronic waste, but all recycling costs were provided courtesy of Apple, and we made sure the electronic items were recycled in an environmentally responsible manner,” said Simply Mac president Steve Bain.

Electronic items that could be recycled included televisions, CRT monitors, LCD displays,

“Utah’s consumers didn’t disappoint either, bringing in 240,000 pounds from more than 2,600
total consumers, for a total of 500,000 pounds (250 tons) of waste.”

The e-waste recycling event featured four drop off points with more than 550 paid temporary
staff from Utah: The Merrill Engineering Building at the University of Utah, the Maverik Center
in West Valley, Thanksgiving Point in Lehi and the Provo Town Centre Mall in Provo. Each
venue was organized with five to 10, 53-foot-long semi trucks.

The event’s official kickoff occurred at the University of Utah on April 29, and featured remarks
from Bain, as well as remarks from local government officials.

Bain added, “It was great working with Apple on this community event. The success of the
event means that we will be bringing it back next year.”

Simply Mac Delivers $25,000 Worth of Food Products to the Utah Food Bank Wednesday

Salt Lake City, Utah – Dec. 21, 2010 –Simply Mac, a Utah-based Apple Specialist, will deliver
$25,000 worth of food products to Utah Food Bank, located at 3150 South 900 West in Salt Lake
City, on Wednesday, Dec. 22 at 11 a.m. The donation is a result of the first annual Simply Mac
Meals for Macs food drive.

Simply Mac collected donations of macaroni and cheese, canned apple products and other
food items at its four Utah retail locations in Layton, Orem, St. George and the Fort Union area
from Nov. 15 through Dec. 18. The company also pledged to donate 10 pounds of food for
every computer or iPad purchased at Simply Mac during that period.

“We developed this unique food drive of mac and cheese and apple products to tie into our
company and generate donations of staple foods that are in high demand at Utah Food Bank,”
said Steve Bain, president of Simply Mac. “We also learned from Utah Food Bank that there is
an increased request for kid-friendly items, so we focused on those food items for our 10 pounds per purchase donation.”

“Children are an especially vulnerable demographic when considering access to regular
meals,” said Utah Food Bank CEO Jim Pugh. “Right now, one in seven Utah children is at risk
of hunger. Simply Mac’s donation provides the equivalent of 70,726 meals -- enough to feed 48
families one meal for an entire year! We’re very grateful to the generosity of Simply Mac and its
customers as this donation will go a long way in providing for Utah children in need.”

Food for the donation was purchased from Macey’s grocery stores, which partnered with
Simply Mac to purchase bulk foods at wholesale rates. “We are grateful to Macey’s for
partnering with us on this food drive and helping feed so many hungry kids in Utah this winter.
Because of their support, we were able to donate $19,176 toward the purchase of food from
Macey’s at cost and maximize the donation value to $25,000 worth of food products,” added
Bain.

“This is a fun promotion that our teams can really get behind. Macey’s loves to partner with
great companies like Simply Mac that are dedicated to helping those in need in our community,”
said Steve Reich, vice president of marketing for Associated Retail Stores. “The current
economic situation has made it rough on a lot of families, and we are pleased to be a part of this kind of event that reflects the great, caring attitude of the people living in this area.”
