I love iCal. It’s great for some many reasons, one being an e-mail reminder for events or meetings so if I don’t have iCal up, I still get an e-mail telling me what’s up. Plus, having a Mac for personal use, a Mac at work and an iPhone, it makes it so convenient to sync all my calendars together so I know exactly what’s going on with any of my devices.
I tend to go a little overboard with organization. I color code my closet ok, so why wouldn’t I want to color code my iCal? The two iCal options, i.e. home and work, just weren’t working for me. I wanted to separate all the different things going on at work (like meetings, reminders, conference calls, etc.) but still keep my personal things (like my hair appointments or a concert or something) on my calendar and differentiate them by color. I learned this little trick my first week at Simply Mac, and it literally changed my life. So, if you want to spice up your iCal and make it all yours, check this out!
Go to File > New Calendar. I didn’t know you could add calendars (I know, duh right?) so this was revolutionary to me and also so, totally awesome.

From here, name it whatever you want. The sky is the limit.

So, let’s say you had a new calendar, and you call it events, but you don’t like the color. All you need to do is right click the calendar and select “get info.” From here you can re-name your calendar (if you already have stuff saved to your home calendar, for instance, you can rename it to something more relevant if you like) and even change the color. My favorite is to select more colors and play around with all the color options at your fingertips.

Not too hard, huh? And now, you have a color-coded calendar to help you stay on top of your game!
