Still needing Snow Leopard? You can still get it…

by Shane Roberts

Over the last couple of months, I’ve heard quite a few customers that have older Macs getting to a point where they can no longer do software updates, because they are running Mac OS 10.5 Leopard. With us being on OS 10.8 Mountain Lion, and the only way to upgrade to Mountain Lion is to at least have Snow Leopard (10.6), some people are finding themselves in a bit of a bind.

There is still a path to get your Mac up to the newest Mac OS, since a lot of updates are requiring it, and that comes as good news to some people out there. The first thing you need, to get to Mountain Lion, is the App Store. You can’t get the App Store without at least having Snow Leopard. Snow Leopard is no longer sold in stores, but there is still one way to get it. Apple’s online store still has it available for order.  For only $20 you can get caught up to Snow Leopard, then once you have that, $20 more dollars on the App Store will get you to Mountain Lion. So a Mac with Leopard can get all the way caught up for $40. If you haven’t done it already, you better upgrade quick, because you never know when Apple will discontinue Snow Leopard completely.
